10-12-07 : Cunard's Queens Victoria is launched

As designers for the spa, salon and fitness centre, Stephenjohn Design are pleased to have been involved in the development of the third 'Queen'. Continuing along the same path as the QE2 and the Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria delivers finesse, style and quality synonymous with the golden age of cruising and the history and heritage of Cunard.

The vessel began life at Fincantieri's Marghera Yard outside Venice, Italy and at over 90,000 tonnes is the sister ship to the Queen Mary 2 launched to similar accolade in January of 2004. Both of these recent vessels follow the design ethos of the QE2 and this will be the first time Cunard has three Queens in service at the same time. Drawing from Cunard's 167-year history the designers of the ship all followed a nautical theme of golden age luxury with Art Deco and Art Nouveau influences running throughout.

When we came to design the spa and fitness areas we started as always with the plan and design concept running in parallel. This is vital in designing any interior as both can influence the other, ensuring that operational needs and valuable design branding are working in unison. The Spa with its 11 luxurious treatment rooms and its complementary thermal suite and hydrotherapy pool has more than a hint of Art Nouveau, which is delivered with contemporary elegance often associated with 5 star hotels. The overall effect is a mix of tranquil elegance with sensory stimulating areas and complements the menu of high quality treatments and surpasses expectation.
